Job Offer: PhD Student Position in Transient Receptor Potential Channels and T Cell Physiology

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research team at the Department of Physics and Biophysics, Institute of Biology at Warsaw University of Life Sciences. This position is a valuable opportunity for a passionate individual to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of T cell biology and immune response, with a specific focus on the role of Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) and Melastatin 2 (TRPM2) channels in relation to hypoxia and the regulation of immune response.

Project Overview:

The primary objective of this project is to investigate the role of TRPA1 and TRPM2 channels in the physiology of T cells, particularly in relation to hypoxia and their potential involvement in the regulation of immune response. T lymphocytes, as crucial components of the adaptive immune system, play a pivotal role in combating pathogens, including viruses, and are involved in cancer and autoimmune disorders. However, the intricate regulation of T cell functioning is influenced by multiple factors, such as temperature, pH, and hypoxia. Hypoxia, in particular, is known to have a detrimental impact on T cell physiology, affecting their activation, cytotoxicity, and metabolism. The project aims to explore the link between hypoxia-sensing, TRPA1 and TRPM2 channels, and their potential influence on T cells physiology.

Responsibilities:

  • Isolation of primary T cells from human blood samples and T cells culture,
  • Performing molecular biology techniques, including RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and quantitative PCR (qPCR) analysis,
  • Conducting Western Blot analysis to determine protein expression levels,
  • Performing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for cytokine analysis,
  • Employing flow cytometry to analyze T cells phenotype and function,
  • Designing and executing experimental protocols, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Collaborating with fellow researchers, presenting findings at scientific conferences, and contributing to scientific publications
  • Conducting comprehensive literature reviews to establish a strong foundation in the research area

Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree (M.Sc) in biology, biotechnology, or a related discipline
  • Strong background in cell culture and molecular biology techniques, experience in T cell isolation, cell culture, qPCR, Western Blot, ELISA or flow cytometry techniques will be advantageous
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
